About the Book
Extremism is not in any way a new phenomenon. It is also well known that extremism and violence have remained at the very center of Indian politics. There has also hardly been any deterrence for the events of abuse and discrimination against minorities in India. Such instances however, despite being recurrent, usually managed to escape the spotlight, until recently, as publicly they weren’t endorsed by the government.
This was the overall context which led IPS (Institute of Policy Studies) to host an international seminar on the subject. The seminar had more than 20 presentations and speeches dilating upon a number of important themes including the concept and genesis of Hindutva, its economic and political dimensions, responses to it from within as well as from the world community.
Hindutva – Rising Extremism in India documents the proceedings into one volume where the speeches have been edited and revised into articles with enhanced inputs of the expert contributors.
