Dr Brig (r) Tughral Yamin
Dr Tughral Yamin (born 28 June 1957) served in Pakistan Army where he undertook several prestigious command, staff and teaching assignments. The list notably includes his deployment with the Pakistani armored brigade in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and as a Liaison officer for his battalion during its participation in the UN peacekeeping operations in Somalia (1992-93). He also commanded two infantry battalions and a mechanized infantry brigade before finally retiring as a Brigadier. He was awarded SI (M) for meritorious services to his nation.
After his retirement, Dr Yamin pursued a second career in academia. Being the first PhD from the Quaid-i-Azam University’s Department of Defence & Strategic Studies, Dr Yamin taught for one year in Faculty of Contemporary Studies, NDU and then for ten years in NUST, where he went on to become the founder Associate Dean of Centre for International Studies (CIPS). There, he also started the departments of peacekeeping training, peace and conflict studies, and strategic studies.
Dr Yamin was also awarded a fellowship to pursue a research project on cyber CBMs in Sandia National Laboratory, Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA in 2013.
He has several research articles and five books to his credit on such diverse topics as nuclear deterrence, cyber security, UN peacekeeping operations in Somalia, Counter Terrorism and International Peacekeeping.
To date, Dr Yamin has supervised several MS and PhD scholars and has also arranged capacity building classes for Afghan professors. Presently, he is also serving as a senior research fellow at IPS.
