Session on Indian elections
An in-house session was held on May 21, 2014, to discuss the recently held elections in India, its implications on the region and the way forward for Pakistan.
A presentation on the post-election scenario was given by Akif Sattar, assistant research coordinator, IPS, who underlined the significance of these elections alongside the situation of polls in Jammu & Kashmir, Muslim representation in Lok Sabha, effects of electoral results on the region, specially Kashmir and Pakistan, the challenges faced by new government and the possible way forward.
IPS Lead Coordinator Irfan Shahzad was of the view that one of the reasons behind Narinder Modi’s victory was the not-so-satisfactory performance of the Congress in recent years. He said that now it will be a challenge for the new Indian prime minister to prove his leadership qualities by holding the nation together.
