‘Opportunities and Challenges of Trans-Himalaya Regional Cooperation under BRI’
DG-IPS Khalid Rahman visited Leshan University in Sichuan, China to attend the international conference ‘Opportunities and Challenges of Trans-Himalaya Regional Cooperation under Belt and Road Initiative’ which was held from April 20-21, 2018 in the province’s capital Chengdu.
The conference, which was hosted by Leshan Normal University (LSNU) and co-sponsored by Center for Trans-Himalaya Studies of LSNU and Center for Myanmar Studies of Sichuan University, focused on prospects and significance of regional cooperation among Trans-Himalayan countries.
In his keynote speech delivered on the occasion, DG-IPS presented a paper titled ‘Building Trust and Policy Coordination’ in which he looked at different requisites to allow the trust to play its role while studying the changing nature of international competition in the contemporary context. He stressed on the significance of BRI in terms of its ‘inclusiveness and win-win’ paradigm as well as the spirit of ‘community with shared interests’, while strengthening his argument by presenting the example of CPEC as an implementing successful model under the given approach.
