IPS to partner in Chinese action plan on building a network of Asian think tanks

The
Institute of Policy Studies (IPS), Islamabad is among 10 international think
tanks that are partnering ten Chinese institutions to co-launch an action plan
for building a network of Asian think tanks.

Titled
‘Action Plan on Building a Network of Exchanges and Cooperation between Asian
Think Tanks’, the initiative hopes to strengthen exchanges and cooperation
between think tanks in Asia, as well as other regions of the world, by
enhancing the awareness of common challenges, conducting joint research
endeavors, promoting people-to-people connections and facilitating information
sharing.

The
agreement was signed by Executive President IPS Khalid Rahman on behalf of the
Institute, who was visiting Shanghai, China, to attend the preceding forum held
on November 6, 2019

The
co-launch of the action plan is led by Chinese Academy of Social Sciences,
partnered by ten Chinese institutions namely National Institute for Global
Strategy, CASS, Xinhua Institute, China Center for International Economic
Exchanges, Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies, CIPG, China
Institute of International Studies, Research Institute of China Development
Bank, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, Yunnan Academy of South East Asian
and South Asian Studies, Regional Coordinated Development Research Center for
Zhejiang University.

The
ten partnering international think tanks include Institute of Policy Studies
(IPS), Islamabad, Turkish Asian Center for Strategic Studies of Turkey, Center
for New Inclusive Asia of Malaysia, Strategic Research Center under the
President of Tajikistan, Development Strategy Center of Uzbekistan, Center for
Economic and Social Development of Azerbaijan, Policy Research Institute of
Bangladesh, Institute of International Studies of Royal Academy of Cambodia,
Centre for Economic and Social Development of Myanmar, and SMN Investments of
Afghanistan.

The
initiative was taken following the forum ‘China’s 70-year Development and the
Building of a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind’ which was held
recently in Shanghai, China. The forum was one of the five sub-sessions of the
Second Hongqiao International Economic Forum, China International Import Expo.
It was attended by leaders and scholars from more than 200 think tanks and
international organizations from China and abroad, out of which twenty think
tanks joined hands to develop an action plan to advocate regional cooperation
among Asian think tanks with the spirit of openness, equality, practice, and
mutual benefit.
