Law students from Dir briefed over the importance of socio-legal research and the role of think tanks
A delegation comprising students from the law department of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Sheringal (SBBUS), Upper Dir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, visited IPS on an exposure trip on November 1, 2021.
The visitors were headed by Dr Afzal Mehmood, chairman of the department of law at SBBUS, whereas IPS was represented by the Institute’s Chairman Khalid Rahman, Syed Nadeem Farhat, senior research officer and a team member Sardar Ali Yousafzai.
The discussants shed light on the role think tanks and policy institutes play in carrying out socio-legal research to comprehend a multitude of socio-legal problems a society faces and recommend policy imperatives as remedies. In this regard, IPS’ study on forced conversion titled ‘Faith Conversions or Forced Conversions: Rhetoric or Reality’ was also highlighted.
Being aspiring law experts, the delegation was apprised of the fact that a law which attempts to address social woes prevailing in a society tends to stay longer. Hence the importance of social and policy-oriented research for the country’s legal fraternity can never be overemphasized.
