Barriers hampering growth of Net-Metering discussed with AEDB
A 4-member delegation of IPS visited Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB), Ministry of Energy (Power Division), on December 8, 2020 and shared with them the findings from its study ‘Barriers and Drivers of Solar Prosumage: A Case Study of Pakistan’.
AEDB was represented on the occasion by Atif Shehzad, director Net-Metering and Solar Thermal, whereas the Institute’s team included GM-IPS Naufil Shahrukh and the research faculty of IPS Energy, Water and Climate Change program Naila Saleh, Sara and Hamza Naeem. Muhammad Saeed and Asif Fareed, the technical advisors from GIZ – Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit were also present on the occasion.
In an insightful presentation delivered on the topic, IPS team highlighted the status of renewable distributed generation in Pakistan, demonstrating the current progress that has taken place so far on net metering in the country, while also throwing light on the obstacles hampering its growth in Pakistan.
Showing keen interest in finding the base problems on net metering, the AEDB officials applauded the in-depth analysis carried out by IPS team, while sharing their input on the policies adopted with regards to the country’s power generation system.
The discussants agreed on the need of having an immediate solution to the identified barriers for more efficient distributed generation in Pakistan. They also decided to further collaborate in the areas of technical training, business model drafting and grid advancements, whereas the need of working on models and removal of barriers through joint efforts was also stressed.
