Dr. Mahmood Ahmad Ghazi memorial session

To commemorate the works and services of renowned scholar and intellectual Dr. Mahmood Ahmad Ghazi (1950-2010), Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) organized a memorial session on October 8, 2018.

The session was addressed by Justice Dr Mohammad Al-Ghazali – who is the younger brother of Dr Ghazi – as a chief guest whereas the other important speakers of the day included Dr Waqar Masood, former secretary, Ministry of Finance, Professor Dr Tahir Mansuri, former vice president, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI), Dr Ikram ul Haq, secretary, Council of Islamic Ideology, Islamabad, Dr Atiquzzafar Khan, acting director general, International Institute of Islamic Economics (IIIE), Dr Shahzad Iqbal Sham, senior research fellow at IPS, Dr M Farooqui, Dr Sarwar Khan, former IG Tariq Ahmed Lon and DG-IPS Khalid Rahman.

Shedding light on Dr Ghazi’s invaluable academic services, the speakers hailed him as one of the most eminent and distinguished professor, jurist, researcher, writer and scholars of his time.

Dr Ghazali talked about Dr Ghazi’s affection for the books and literature, terming it as one of his most significant personality traits that distinguished him from the age fellows since his childhood.

Dr Masood, Dr Mansuri and Dr Sham recalled their memorable time spent with the deceased scholar, sharing various instances from his life where the quality of his wisdom, thoughtfulness and intellect was on display.

The session’s proceedings were concluded by DG-IPS Khalid Rahman who emphasized on the need of remembering scholarly personalities like Dr Ghazi through memorial sessions such as this with a view to inspire the coming generations to follow his example.
