Exploration of innovative, pragmatic research avenues stressed before the students of Jamiatu Al Kauthar
Knowledge economy is the key for economic development, and one of its essential pillars is the innovation in research endeavors. To achieve this objective, scholars need to explore new research avenues that have practical applicability today and will remain relevant in the future. In this regard, partnerships between educational institutions and research organizations, such as think tanks, can benefit both entities.
This was highlighted during a session held with a delegation of students of Jamiatu Al Kauthar, an Islamic institute providing a mixture of religious and contemporary education, led by Dr. Muntazir Mehdi, head of the Department of English, who visited IPS on December 6, 2023. The session, designed to provide an enriching exposure opportunity to the young scholars, was addressed by Dr Fakhr-ul-Islam, advisor, Research and Academic Outreach, IPS, and Syed Nadeem Farhat, research fellow, IPS.
Addressing the keen audience, Dr Fakhr-ul-Islam pointed out that IPS firmly believes in the power of partnership to make research relevant, promote knowledge, and develop human resources. He stressed that classrooms only provide a foundation, so students should be proactive in seeking applied research besides acting as mentors to guide their juniors.
Nadeem Farhat, introducing IPS and its work to the visitors, deliberated on its history and programs. The presentation included the mandate, background, research areas, and work in conducting policy research. He also highlighted the role of IPS in collaborating with educational institutes and supporting scholars in their research work in various policy-oriented areas. He especially underlined the institute’s ‘Brainstorming Research Ideas’ program, which provides a platform and mentorship for research concepts.
Dr. Muntazir Mehdi underscored the prospects of further and closer collaboration between IPS and Jamiatu Al Kauthar. He elaborated on different avenues for cooperation, such as workshops, international dialogues, conferences, and discussions on various issues of national interest. He said the visit aimed to provide an enriching exposure opportunity to the young scholars so that they could develop a broader vision required to carry out research relevant to today’s environment. He also gave an overview of the history, mission, and courses offered by Jamiatu Al Kauthar.
At the end of the briefing, the young scholars engaged in an interactive session to foster discussion and exchange of ideas.
