IPS represented in IIUI conference ‘Uniform National Curriculum and Our Education System’

IPS was represented by its Executive President Khalid Rahman in a national conference titled ‘Uniform National Curriculum and Our Education System’, which was organized by Iqbal International Institute for Research & Dialogue (IRD) – an autonomous unit of International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) – in collaboration with the University’s Department of Education, on March 11, 2020.

Speaking on the occasion about
knowledge, its sources and importance of education, Rahman said that
unfortunately today students tend to acquire good education in pursuit of
better degrees, which itself is aimed at getting better jobs. The real purpose
of seeking knowledge – which is to become a good, useful human being – however
gets lost somewhere far in the process. He suggested that instead of raising
slogans like ‘Knowledge-based Economy’, one should rather promote
‘Knowledge-based Society’, as this little change can help address many
existential problems we are faced with collectively today.

Rahman was also very appreciative
of the incumbent government’s efforts to introduce uniform national curriculum
for all institutions across the country. He termed the initiative the need of
the hour, hoping that the step will not only help reduce fragmentations in the
masses, but will also create balanced opportunities for all sections of
society.

It worth’s a mention here that the
conference was also attended by the Federal Minister for Education Shafqat
Mehmood as well as Joint Secretary Education Rafiq Tahir, alongside many other
esteemed academics and subject specialists.
