The special issue of the quarterly Urdu journal “Maghrib aur Islam” has been brought out under the title of “Alamgeeriat ka Challenge aur Musalman.” This second issue in the year 2011 is a sequel to “Maghrib aur Islam” (34, special issue 2010) that was published under the same title. Comprising 136 pages, the current issue includes papers of the intellectuals including the editor of the journal Anis Ahmad, Muhammad Umar Chapra, Ian Markham, and Mahmood Ahmad Ghazi.
The key message delivered by the deliberations in both the special issues is that though globalization carries great potentials of human welfare and prosperity, the inequity in the international system deprives man of these benefits. The present system is leading globalization to cause nothing other than further losses to the weaker and gains to the stronger. This continued exploitation is not only causing the increased hardships and sufferings for humanity but is also resulting in magnifying the threat of international conflicts, which have already taken form.
Socio-economic justice is indispensable for global peace. For this purpose, the current widespread wave of globalization must be brought in accordance with the basic moral principles which have been taught in different religions, especially in Islam.
