About the Issue
Maghrib aur Islam – a bi-annual Urdu journal of IPS – is a valuable resource for understanding Western perceptions about Islam and building basis for constructive dialogue between the two civilizations.
The latest issue discusses one of the major problems that arose following the crises in the Middle-East and Syria, which was the migration and settlement of Muslims to different European countries. The migration gave birth to many new debates which are not only being deliberated upon in the European fraternities, but also in serious Muslim circles, contemplating at length from multifarious angles the migration itself as well as several consequently emerging issues. With the increase in the number of Muslim migrants, a shift in initially welcoming behavior of European communities is also being observed . In recent years, there has been an escalation of adverse sentiments and hostilities towards Muslim migrants not only in the political circles but also at the societal levels. The target of this hatred are sadly not only the Muslim migrants, but also those Muslims who are residing in European vicinity for decades. Since European society is unable to embrace the contemporary Muslim generation that has been raised in the West itself, these Muslims too are now faced with several social as well religious challenges, which in turn is ensuing a socio-religious identity crisis. . An overview of all these issues is being presented in the current issue.
