Pakistan-Afghanistan must take measures to overcome their lack of trust: VC-IPS
VC-IPS Ambassador (r) Syed Abrar Hussain was invited by Pak Afghan Youth Forum to speak at the 10th session of Pak-Afghan storytelling series titled ‘Stories We Live By’ on May 13, 2022, with a view to share some insights and interesting stories from his illustrious diplomatic service tenures for Pakistan in Afghanistan.
Sharing his views on the occasion, Hussain maintained that Pakistan was constantly extending humanitarian aid and assistance to Afghanistan for many years, the bilateral relations between the two countries however have remained far from ideal as some segments from Afghanistan have continued to look at Pakistan with suspicion.
He urged that the two governments and peoples of both sides must realize that with so many socio-cultural similarities, their lack of trust on each other was proving to be detrimental for both sides and the two countries must take effective measures to overcome trust deficit.
The former ambassador stressed Pakistan to continue playing its role to ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan and the region, whereas the bilateral relations between the two sides, he opined, could be bolstered by supporting increased cross-border movement of goods and people, as well as by staying vigilant and not allowing spoilers to drive a wedge between the two neighboring nations.
