Pakistan, Afghanistan should focus on commonalities, create business opportunities to facilitate each other, VC-IPS maintains
VC-IPS Ambassador (r) Syed Abrar Hussain represented IPS as a speaker in a number of externally organized sessions relating to the topic of ‘Pakistan-Afghanistan relations’ during the month of November 2022.
Invited by Centre for Afghanistan, Middle East and Africa (CAMEA), Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI), VC-IPS participated in three separate sessions held by ISSI within the month.
On November 1st, he took part in a roundtable on ‘Pak-Afghan relations’, in which he suggested that Pakistan should introduce Afghan investor visas, facilitate transit trade and try to create more and more Afghan stakes within the country.
In a webinar titled ‘Pak-Afghan Economic Ties: Opening New Vistas’ held on November 14, he advised policy makers from both countries to listen to the recommendations put forward by Pak-Afghan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Joint Business Forum.
Speaking to a bilateral dialogue between Afghanistan & Pakistan, which was held by CAMEA-ISSI in collaboration with Heart of Asia Society (HAS), Kabul, on November 24, VC-IPS urged the two brotherly nations to highlight commonalities among them and put their differences on the back burner in order to move ahead towards a better future.
VC-IPS also delivered a talk at a session titled ‘Future of Taliban’, which was organized by Institute of Regional Studies (IRS) on November 22. The former ambassador underscored Afghanistan’s political situation, economic potential and future prospects on the occasion.
Hussain, in addition, also took part in a seminar ‘Post US Afghanistan’, organized by the Contemporary Studies Department of National Defence University (NDU) on November 23, where he highlighted the need for engaging Taliban, lifting sanctions, de-freezing Afghan assets and supporting Afghan government to fight terrorism.
