Pakistan would benefit amply by learning from Chinese governance, decision-making, consistency in policies: Chairman IPS

Chairman IPS Khalid Rahman was invited to participate in a discussion with a high-level Chinese expert delegation visiting Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) to have interaction with the leading academia and think tank representatives of Pakistan, aiming to build knowledge networks, mobilise resources for research and development, and learning best practices through close cooperation. The event titled ‘Pakistan Economy & Growth: Learning from Chinese Experience’ was held on August 02, 2024.

Speaking on the occasion, Rahman said that while the bilateral relations between Pakistan and China have historically been sturdy, Pakistan has not availed many opportunities to learn from the economic giant. This does not mean that Pakistan should try to copy and replicate everything that China has done, still it can learn from the strategies and best practices employed by its neighbour and then try to adopt them as per its own situation and circumstances.

Elaborating his thoughts, Rahman said that today China is recognized globally for its economic growth and development, but one must understand that this achievement is a result of good governance and stability maintained by the country at every level for so long; and Pakistan can benefit amply by learning from these governance mechanisms, decision-making, policymaking, and consistency in its policies.

The speaker also pointed out many other potential areas for Pakistan to assimilate from China, including doing proper homework before execution, having action-oriented approach, long-term thinking, succession planning, narrative-building, and utilizing the power of media to its own advantage.
