‘Pakistan’s Policy Environment: A Practitioner’s Perspective’

Intended to apprise and familiarize aspiring policy practitioners with the challenges and obstacles of actual policymaking environment, IPS hosted an interactive session with the students of NUST Public Administration Society (NPAS) on November 10, 2021.

The session, which was chaired by Chairman IPS Khalid Rahman, was addressed as keynote speaker by Former Federal Secretary Syed Abu Ahmad Akif, whereas the head of the visiting delegation Dr Inayatullah, assistant professor at NUST School of Social Sciences, IPS Vice Chairman Ambassador (r) Syed Abrar Hussain and Naufil Shahrukh, general manager at IPS were also present in the speaker’s panel.

In light of his profuse experience, Akif shared rich insights from the policymaking environment of Pakistan, discussing at length how public policy was designed and put into action in the country, while shedding light on different kind of impediments that policy practitioners have to face in a very complex and challenging environment.

The veteran speaker also shared several interesting anecdotes from his civil services tenures in a bid to impart a good understanding to the students about different kind of processes, dynamics and stakeholders that play their part one way or another in shaping a public policy.
