The latest issue of Policy Perspectives – the flagship journal of the Institute of Policy Studies, Islamabad – has been published.

The volume brings together seven academically written pieces on diverse subjects.  The highlight of the publication is a five-segment symposium titled Agenda before the Nation: 2013 and Beyond. Considering that the first half of 2013 is a period supposed to witness a reshaping of the present political dispensation, highlighting the need for a comprehensive and balanced academic discourse on important issues confronting the nation; this academic contribution comes up with solid, viable policy proposals in five major areas i.e. i) Constitutional, Political and Governance issues, ii) Foreign Policy, iii) Security, iv) Economy, and v) Energy sector.

Another key contribution titled New Silk Road Initiative (NSRI) and Pak-China Relations argues that there is need to study NSRI in the context of broader US strategy for the region, calling upon Pakistan and China to fortify and enhance their overland linkages on bilateral as well as regional levels.

A survey of some of the legislations taken up by the present parliament on women’s rights, gender and related issues is part of the volume; throwing light on implications these legislations entail for Pakistani society. A piece on Chemical & Biological Weapons discusses Pakistan’s preparedness against any possible attack of such weaponry.

Other articles contained in the issue debate the ideological and philosophical aspects of some of the pressing contemporary issues such as human rights, ethics and theories of research.

The publication provides timely and useful appraisal of important concerns for policy makers and opinion leaders, academics, intellectual and students.
