The Living Scripts | Ambassador (r) Tasawar Khan
Divided across three sittings, the twenty-third session of IPS series of programs ‘The Living Scripts’ was held with Ambassador (r) Tasawar Khan, Pakistan’s former ambassador to United Mexican States, on July 9, 16 and 17, 2021.
The former diplomat, who was born in Toba Tek Singh, shared his life journey with the audience, apprising that he acquired his early education from district Sheikhupura before moving to Government College Lahore for higher studies, and then finally joining Pakistan Army after passing ISSB where he moved onto become a captain.
Khan then joined Foreign Service soon after being nominated for the civil service, where he had unique opportunities to serve during the SAARC Summit 1989, attending funeral prayer of Imam Ali Khamenei in Iran, and accompanying the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at UNGA.
The speaker told that his first diplomatic assignment was set to be in Mauritius as Third Secretary (1991-95) , following which he moved on to serve in the countries like Saudi Arabia as First Secretary (1999-2003), Zimbabwe as Counsellor (2003-2006), Australia as Minister Counsellor/Deputy Head of Mission (2008-2012) and in Los Angeles as Consul General (2013-2014), before finally serving as an Ambassador of Pakistan to United Mexican States, with concurrent accreditation to Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala and Panama from 2017–2020.
The speaker also shared that apart from completing a Master’s degree in International Diplomatic Studies from the University of London, United Kingdom, he was also awarded with an Honorary Doctorate by the Universidad Internacional Desarrollo Humano Y Lidrazgo, Mexico City.
