VC-IPS addresses a webinar on post US-withdrawal Afghanistan
Vice Chairman IPS Ambassador (r) Syed Abrar Hussain represented IPS in a webinar titled ‘A Post US-Withdrawal Afghanistan: Security, Political and Socio-Economic Implications’, which was organized by The Shahid Javed Burki Institute of Public Policy (BIPP) at Netsol (Lahore) on August 30, 2021.
The session was moderated by Shahid Najam, vice chairman, BIPP, and addressed alongside VC-IPS by Prof Dr Syed Hussain Shaheed Soherwardi, chairperson, Department of International Relations, University of Peshawar and former director, Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies, Lt General (r) Ghulam Mustafa, geo-political and defence analyst, and Dr Naveed Elahi, adjunct professor at School of Governance and Society, University of Management and Technology (UMT) and former faculty member, National School of Public Policy (NSPP), Lahore.
Speaking on the occasion, Amb (r) Abrar considered former Afghan president Ashraf Ghani somewhat responsible for such unexpected and sudden fall of Kabul as well as for the subsequent implications. He anticipated that Taliban would be faced with several stern political, security and economic challenges, and the newly formed Afghanistan government would need a lot of support from the international community, especially regional neighbors, to regain peace and stability in the country.
